FAQ
CPAP
How often should I clean the device?
The mask, exhalation valve, and humidifier should be cleaned daily. The headgear should be cleaned as often as you change your nightwear. Tubing and tubing connections should be cleaned at least once a month.
Tip: You can find an overview of the details from the manufacturer. Otherwise, everything is specified in the user manual.
How often should I use the device?
Every night, without exception. Otherwise, you will not get restful sleep.
What is the difference between CPAP and APAP devices?
CPAP devices maintain a constant positive airway pressure, while APAP devices automatically adjust the pressure to your breathing pattern. APAP therapy is often considered more comfortable.
What is sleep apnea?
Apnea refers to a cessation of breathing. Sleep apnea syndrome is a condition caused by pauses in breathing during sleep and may be accompanied by various consequences, such as severe daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, and even sudden sleep episodes (microsleep or involuntary sleep attacks).
What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?
- Pauses in breathing lasting at least 10 seconds and up to several minutes
- Difficulty staying asleep (frequent awakening during the night)
- Daytime fatigue and a tendency to fall asleep during the day
- Morning headaches (“feeling as though you’ve been run over or beaten up”)
- Dizziness, especially after getting up
- Dry mouth upon waking
- Night sweats
- Nocturia (increased need to urinate at night)
- Episodes of microsleep or overwhelming sleep attacks, sometimes without warning
- Difficulty concentrating, which may develop into memory problems
- Depressed mood
- Impotence or erectile dysfunction
- Restless sleep
Is sleep apnea curable?
Unfortunately, lifelong treatment is required in most cases. Losing weight often leads to a significant improvement.
What does AHI mean?
AHI stands for apnea-hypopnea index and refers to the number of apneas and periods of significantly reduced breathing depth accompanied by oxygen desaturation per hour.
For example, if 20 apneas and 10 hypopneas occur, the AHI is 30.
How does the risk of obstructive sleep apnea increase?
People who are overweight are at particularly high risk. In addition, the likelihood increases with age. Excessive alcohol consumption and strongly sedating medications (including sleeping pills) should also be avoided.
I’m worried about using the CPAP machine. How can I be sure I’m getting enough air?
Directly behind the mask is an “exhalation valve.” This is either a porous, air-permeable material, a ring-shaped slit, or a simple opening through which exhaled air can reliably escape. Even with a full-face mask that covers your mouth and nose, you can exhale normally.
Wheelchairs
Which wheelchair is right for me?
The ideal wheelchair depends on your mobility, your environment, and the intended duration of use.
Standard or lightweight wheelchairs are suitable for indoor use. Active users may benefit from adjustable or active wheelchairs with individually customized settings. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, power wheelchairs or hybrid wheelchairs with powerful motor assistance are a good choice.
What materials are wheelchairs made from, and what are the differences?
- Steel frame: durable and affordable, but heavier.
- Aluminum frame: lighter, corrosion-resistant, and easy to fold.
- Carbon frame: exceptionally lightweight, vibration-damping, and highly elegant—ideal for active users.
What should I do if I experience pain while sitting in my wheelchair?
- Buttock pain: Check the seat cushion—use a soft cushion or an air cushion if needed.
- Side pain: Check the seat width or use an anatomically shaped cushion for additional support and greater stability.
- Back pain: Adjust the backrest angle and use a back cushion or a flexible, adjustable backrest with straps, or an anatomically shaped specialized back support.
Do you need a doctor's prescription to buy a wheelchair?
At JustLife24, you can also purchase wheelchairs privately without a doctor’s prescription. A prescription is not required to find the right wheelchair with us. Whether you need a wheelchair for short-term use, as a supplement to existing mobility aids, or simply for personal reasons, you’ll find a wide selection of wheelchairs that you can purchase directly and conveniently from us.
Our experts will, of course, provide you with comprehensive advice even without a prescription and help you find the model that best suits your individual needs.
I don’t have enough energy to keep moving all day today. What should I do?
Have the wheelchair settings checked so that you can propel it more easily. Alternatively, an active wheelchair with an adjusted center of gravity may help. An electric pushing aid, such as the Alber e-motion, can also electrically amplify the force you still have when pushing.
I care for a person in need of care and need a wheelchair—what do I need to consider?
Look for a wheelchair with drum brakes for attendants so you can safely control the speed on uphill and downhill slopes. In addition, power-assist devices (motor assistance) can provide significant relief. Warm clothing or a wheelchair cover is particularly important in winter, as wheelchair users can quickly become chilled while sitting. A lap belt helps prevent slipping out of the seat or tipping forward.
Who repairs and maintains my wheelchair?
Wheelchairs purchased online generally have to be sent in for servicing or repairs. At Burbach+Goetz medical supply store in Koblenz, we offer repairs, maintenance, and safety inspections directly on-site in our own workshop.
When should I have my wheelchair serviced or replaced?
When the diagnosis, body weight, mobility, or living situation changes. The average lifespan of a wheelchair is approximately 5–8 years, depending on use and maintenance.
Which type of tire is right for me?
- Solid rubber / TPE: maintenance-free and puncture-proof.
- Soft tires: quiet and comfortable.
- Pneumatic tires: maximum cushioning and shock absorption – ideal for sensitive joints.
Rollators
Which rollator is right for me?
This depends on where you use it and your physical needs. Indoor rollators are particularly narrow and maneuverable, while outdoor models provide stability on uneven terrain. If you are frequently on the go, you can benefit from foldable aluminum or carbon rollators—they are lightweight, durable, and ideal for transport.
What are the differences between steel, aluminum, and carbon rollators?
- Steel rollators: very stable and affordable, but somewhat heavier.
- Aluminum rollators: lighter, rust-resistant, and easy to fold.
- Carbon rollators: especially lightweight, elegant, and very easy to push—ideal for active users who value design and low weight.
What types of handles are available for a rollator?
Depending on individual needs, various handle types are available:
- Standard handles: classic and non-slip.
- Ergonomic handles: reduce strain on the wrists and palms.
- Cork handles: pleasantly warm and sweat-absorbing.
- One-handed handles / one-handed brake: for users with impairments on one side of the body.
- Forearm supports: ideal for reduced hand strength or conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
How do you adjust the rollator handles correctly?
It is recommended to adjust the handles to wrist height while standing upright with your arms relaxed at your sides. To do this, proceed as follows: Stand behind the rollator. Under normal conditions, the handles should now be at wrist height.
What are the most common mistakes when adjusting a rollator?
If the handles are adjusted too high, the user may no longer walk within the rollator frame but instead far behind it. This can lead to an asymmetrical posture.
There are, however, exceptions. For therapeutic reasons, such as during physiotherapy gait training, the handles may intentionally be adjusted higher. A higher handle position may also be appropriate for certain conditions or disabilities to support a compensatory postural correction.
Which type of tire is right for me?
- Solid rubber / TPE tires: puncture-proof, maintenance-free, and ideal for indoor use.
- Soft tires: lightly cushioned, quiet, and comfortable.
- Pneumatic tires: maximum shock absorption on uneven surfaces and especially gentle on the joints.
Where will my rollator be repaired and serviced?
When purchased online, the rollator generally has to be sent in for maintenance.
At Burbach+Goetz medical supply store in Koblenz, repairs, maintenance, and safety inspections are carried out directly on-site in the in-house workshop—quickly, professionally, and with personal service.
What types of brakes are there?
- Standard pressure brake: classic brake levers on the handles.
- Drag brake: regulates speed and is ideal for downhill slopes or conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
- Drum brake: integrated into the wheels, low-maintenance, and unaffected by the weather.
What should I do if the wheels are worn out or the brakes are losing effectiveness?
If braking performance decreases, the brakes should be readjusted immediately.
If the wheels are heavily worn, they must be replaced for safety reasons. This keeps the rollator reliable and safe for everyday use.
When should I replace my rollator?
Replacement is recommended if your diagnosis, mobility, body weight, or living situation changes. Depending on use and maintenance, a rollator typically lasts about 5–8 years.
What is the best walker?
There is no single “best” rollator—it depends on which model best suits you and your everyday life.
For indoor use, a lightweight and narrow indoor rollator is generally suitable. For walks or uneven terrain, an outdoor rollator with soft or pneumatic tires is recommended. Those who are frequently on the go may benefit from a carbon rollator—it is particularly lightweight, elegant, and easy to fold. For users with physical limitations, such as reduced hand strength or Parkinson’s disease, rollators with forearm supports or drag brakes are especially suitable.
In short: The best rollator is the one that supports your mobility safely, comfortably, and reliably over the long term.
